The beginning of the Silk Road was Xi'an (Chang'an) in Shaanxi Province (presented above in yellow).
The Chinese section of the Silk Road continued from Shaanxi and passed through the provinces of Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai,
and into the northwestern province of Xinjiang, before crossing Central Asia, into Iran and Mesopotamia.
