Almost all United Nations member states observe Universal World Children’s Day on November 20, but most countries do not officially have a public holiday called “Children’s Day” as do Türkiye, China, and Japan. Yet, in many countries such as South Korea, Mexico, India, Russia, and New Zealand, it is widely celebrated although it may not be a public day observance.
It should be noted that in countries in severe conflict and humanitarian crisis, official or joyful celebrations are largely non-existent because children’s basic rights, safety, and welfare are severely impacted by ongoing war and poverty, in addition to hunger, displacement, natural disasters, or climate crises.
